But I like the selling point that if you dock it in your bedroom, it's an alarm clock, dock it in the living room and it's a digital picture frame, doc it in the kitchen, and it's a recipe book (which I really like since I get most of my recipes online these days and with a small kitchen, my laptop takes up too much counter space). And the reader would be cool. But other than that, I don't see any advantages it really has over my laptop. And way more expensive.

Re: Twitter Updates for 2010-01-28

My thoughts on the IPad.

Well I spent yesterday watching the live coverage on Twit.tv (Thanks Leo for the only known live video broadcast of the Apple Announcement.) and i don't think i'm alone when I say that it was anti climatic. Could this be because of the weeks/months of wild rumors flying around on the net? Possibly, but its not Apple's style to bring out complicated do-everything devices.

The IPad, in my opinion, has its uses, but I cannot yet justify dropping at least $500 on something that does what I already do on my netbook. And before anyone tells me it's not a netbook" let me stop you right there. I am not comparing the IPad to my netbook,, I am just wondering do I really need 2 devices to search the web or update facebook? And i am still on the fence with this one.

I have spent some time thinking about what I do on my netbook, Desktop, laptop and Iphone. And when I got my netbook I knew that I was not going to be using it to run Corel Draw or FPS Games. Basically I use the netbook on the couch, Outside, on trips and at family gatherings to share photos. I use the desktop for my more demanding tasks and programs as well as large quantities of typing (even though I am posting this from my netbook). The Iphone I use to keep up on email, twitter and facebook updates when I am away from my computers, and occasional web browsing, app playing, and listening to music and audiobooks on the go.

That being said, after some deep medetation and reflecting, I have found that the IPad could fit into my lifestyle. I came to find that most of what I do on the netbook on the couch I could be using the IPad for. I could be looking at the local paper, facebook, reading fastenating blogs like thetwidgetlog.com, without my hand cramping from using a touchpad on the netbook. I could also use it at family gatherings to show off pics of my daughter, playing with a multitude of apps, watching videos, and the best part in my opinion, E-Books. I think it would make a great reader even though it has a backlit lcd screen.

What I wouldn't use it for, listening to music, I don't need a 10 inch ipod, I have an IPhone and IPod for music. Typing would be out of the question for lengthy documents, if I have to plug it into an expensive add on dock right next to my desktop to type on it, I'll type on my desktop. 3G data, again I have an IPhone for this, and while in town if I feel i need to use my IPad on the internet I will hit a local WIFI hotspot. Iwork, depending on the functionality of the programs I may use this while meeting with customers and showing or manipulating drawings if they are supported.

The other thing I wonder is, if i have an IPad, will I still use my netbook. I think yes, There are many benifits to using a netbook for some applications. I will still want to access the shared files on my home network which the IPad cannot do. If im on the couch and want to type a decent blog post like this, I probably will grab the netbook.

All in all I think this device has a place in my home, and some room for improvement, But i still hope to be able to get one when they are available

Re: Network TV gets it wrong again

You make sense, Twidget, I own a Roku player, and find much of Netflix's content not available to the black box/instant viewing queue. I wonder what other content Roku could access for free....could be a dumb thought. This is America.
I have another question. Can you explain the technology behind so-called 'Enhanced Reality' print pages? See story at Esquire Magazine: http://mashable.com/2009/10/30...

Well, our McAfee is update (recently purchased), and now the error messages are stating something about a keyboard failure. Everytime we surf the internet, we can do alright by the mouse, but as soon as we touch the keyboard it all freezes up. I think we'll have to follow your advice and wipe it clean and re-install everything. (Hopefully my next question will not be, "can you suggest a good compuer guy in town?") My thanks!

Re: Chicago death toll double that of Iraq

So… why isn’t anyone calling for a withdrawal from Illinois?

As an anarchist, I think the U.S. government should withdraw from Illinois... and every state and territory, for that matter.

Re: http://thetwidgetlog.com/?p=210

Have you chased down his music yet and listened to it in this order. the see you in hell song is so having kids like it's scary.

Re: http://thetwidgetlog.com/?p=210

Oh, that was funny. I'd heard the story about the CEO, but apparently not all of it. I wonder if it's worth it for this service. Does identity theft really happen to that many people?

Re: To Life!
Are there comparisons between LifeLock and other id theft protection solutions? One wonders about costs. To the guy who just had his id stolen, the cost is immaterial, he wishes he'd paid it, no matter how much they charged.
